Carnival 2004

Another successful carnival has come to an end. In spite of (or maybe because of) repeated suggestions that such an event is no longer relevant, the Carnival Committee put on an increased programme of events

Highlights included the Athelstan Players' Carnival Revue - described by many as their best ever - the Butterfly Queen Disco, the popular return of Cantanti Camerati, a vibrant Petticoat Lane, and the open air Thanksgiving Service outside the Abbey.

But it was of course the Carnival Procession that attracted the crowds. A huge amount of work must have gone into preparing the many and varied floats. The pictures below give a small impression of the spectacle provided. Particular mention must be made of Ian and Barbara Pollard from Abbey House Gardens doing their karaoke, while further back were the Bollards, very similar in appearance, winners of the Walker's Challenge Cup.
